Surfside Beach Town Council passed an ordinance Tuesday.
The new law allows people to drink alcohol while walking around in designated areas at town-sponsored events.
Under the ordinance, town staff will be tasked with determining which areas during events will allow people to walk around with alcoholic beverages.
The town previously debated turning the Entertainment District around the pier into a social district. That would permit year-round open containers. Further details were no available.
