Two Florida Democratic Representatives received suspicious packages.

Central Florida Rep. Darren Soto and Orlando Rep. Maxwell Frost, both Democrats, reported their offices received the suspicious packages at their offices this month and are cooperating with law enforcement.

“My office received a suspicious package matching those reported by other offices across the country,” Democratic Rep. Maxwell Frost said in a statement released after the incident. “As a precaution, our office has been evacuated. U.S. Capitol Police and the Orlando Police Department have been notified, and the appropriate authorities are responding.”

“Our office received an envelope with a suspicious substance,” Democratic Rep. Darren Soto posted. “Thankfully, Congressman Frost’s office gave us advance notice to monitor our mail. The envelope was intercepted by local law enforcement, and no staff was hurt.”

Both Florida Democrats said they will work with law enforcement and Rep. Soto wants those responsible brought to justice for political violence.

“We are working with federal, state, and local law enforcement to support an investigation,” Rep. Darren Soto continued. “Political violence has no place in our democracy, and we hope those who perpetrated this crime are brought to justice.”

“My staff and I are safe,” Rep. Frost continued. “We are taking this situation seriously and cooperating fully with law enforcement as they assess the situation.”
